Hiring Hair & Makeup

It's time to get glam! When I was a bride, one thing that surprised me was that booking my hair and makeup team happened before I did a trial. This is almost always the case, so it is important to do some research first. We spoke to two amazing women- Eva, owner of Make Me Up Eva and Aimee, owner of Top Knots by Aimee, to get their advice on selecting your hair and makeup squad.

Tips

When it comes to selecting an artist, you want to make sure a couple of things line up:

  • First, you want to make sure their work goes with the style you are looking for. Ask your artist for their portfolio and/or examples of their work.

  • Second would be to have a trial to make sure you vibe both personality wise & makeup wise. The trial is the true test to see if the artist is the right match for you.

For your trial:

  • You want to make sure you have your trial in a month that your skin tone & texture will be as close as possible to what it will be the day of the wedding, to get a true idea of how everything will look.

  • Bringing inspiration photos is also a great idea. Make sure the makeup in the photos are on girls that have close skin coloring, eyes & hair to you!

Tips

When deciding which hair stylists you want to reach out to for your wedding:

  • research your stylist’s social media pages and read their reviews!

  • A bridal hair stylist who specializes in weddings will have lots of reviews and updated social media channels with new work being posted a few times a week.

  • The work on their social media pages should reflect their style and skill set and if you see similar styles you want on their pages, it’s most likely you’re going to be a good fit!

For your trial

  • be sure to send your stylist photos of your desired look along with a photo of your hair blown out smooth.

  • Many times, the looks my clients want to achieve will require the use of clip in hair extensions—seeing photos of my client’s real life hair prior to the trial usually confirms this. I can’t recommend enough to have your clip in extensions with you at your hair trial if your stylist recommends you have them. Many times clients arrive for their trials with out them to “see how it looks without the extensions” and then book a second trial with the extensions purchased. We can usually save time and trial fees if you arrive with your extensions the first time!

  • Always arrive with your hair blown out smooth from the night before, or morning of if you run oily. The best up and down ‘do’s are always created with hair that has been blown out smooth!

  • If possible also always have your hair accessories and/or veil with you at your trial.
